Oracle Cloud Unveils New Compute E6 Shapes with 5th Gen AMD EPYC Processors

Cloud innovation

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) has launched its new Compute E6 Standard shapes, powered by the 5th Gen AMD EPYC™ processors. These processors are lauded as the world’s best server CPUs for enterprise, AI and cloud, promising to double the cost-to-performance ratio compared to the previous E5 generation.

The introduction of the OCI Compute E6 shapes signifies a significant advancement in performance and cost efficiency, catering to general-purpose and compute-intensive workloads. As part of an extensive selection of more than 1,000 compute instances, these shapes underscore the widespread adoption of AMD EPYC processors by major cloud service providers.

Dan McNamara, senior vice president and general manager of server business at AMD, expressed confidence in the new processors’ ability to drive highly competitive cloud offerings. “The rapid adoption of AMD EPYC processors in the cloud underscores our ability to deliver innovative, high-performance solutions that enable our partners to create highly competitive cloud offerings. The combination of OCI’s flexible infrastructure and the performance of 5th Gen AMD EPYC processors helps customers accelerate their most demanding workloads while optimizing their cloud infrastructure.”

The collaboration with OCI aims to accelerate demanding workloads while optimising cloud infrastructure with superior performance.

Donald Lu, senior vice president of software development at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, highlighted OCI’s ongoing commitment to delivering cost-effective cloud solutions. “Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is committed to providing our customers with the best-performing, most cost-effective cloud offerings. With the new OCI Compute E6 Standard shapes powered by AMD EPYC processors, we are delivering an unparalleled combination of compute power, scalability, and efficiency that meets the demands of today’s most complex workloads.”

This development is poised to meet the demands of today’s complex workloads, offering customers enhanced flexibility and performance.

The OCI Compute E6 Standard bare metal instances and virtual machines are now available in key regions, including US East (Ashburn), US West (Phoenix), US Midwest (Chicago), Germany Central (Frankfurt), and UK South (London). Plans for further regional rollout are in place for the coming months, aiming to broaden access and support for organisations worldwide.

Overall, this partnership between Oracle and AMD is set to redefine cloud computing standards, delivering remarkable compute power and cost efficiency.
